Ypulse Essentials: Chicago Tribune 'Mashes' It Up, Kotex Patners With DotGirl, TV's Rich Kids Get Richer
Posted by anastasia on 09-04-2008
Chicago Tribune 'Mashes' it up (The newspaper publishes "The Mash" in print and online, a student-written newspaper for Chicago high school students.)
- Kotex partners with DotGirl (a company offering tweens "first period" products)
- Disney's virtual worlds (highlights from Steve Parkis' closing keynote at the Virtual Worlds conference happening in Los Angeles. Izzy Neis will be writing up a recap for Ypulse readers hopefully next week!) (Paid Content)
- Teen site Kiwibox selects teen video correspondent (and sends her to Fashion Week) (press release)
- Cell phones not too cool for school (new research says kids "should be allowed to use mobile phones in the classroom to boost education standards." Plus Virgin Mobile offers free buzzd service providing "continuously updated event and venue listings in major U.S. cities from sources such as TimeOut, Flavorpill and Citysearch") (Textually) (Media Post, reg. required)
- Can The CW sustain its early ratings success? (asks Portfolio. Plus fun piece in the New York Times, reg. required, about how "the richies" on TV [and even the "middle class" kids] are getting richer. It's like watching scripted versions of MTV's "Cribs" or VH1's "The Fabulous Life," which is part of the reason why I love "Friday Night Lights.")
- Tough times (for teen retailers – a think piece from Wharton. And Diadora sneaks targeting trendy teens) (Seattle Times)
- College grads (not so confident about their job prospects, according to this research. And following up on Casey's post yesterday, "Why Young Men Delay Adulthood to Stay in Guyland" – thanks Andrea!) (Newsweek)
P.S. Ypulse reader Greg is looking for "stories of today's youth that have done something remarkable and created magic in their lives and in the lives of others" as well as Gen Y experts to highlight. Check out his new blog for more info.

Thanks Anastasia.
In response to the college grads not being confident, well, how could they feel confident. All they hear daily is recession this and war that. We need to regain the confidence in the economy before we can regain the confidence of our future leaders.
