Note from Anastasia: Hope you like the new newsletter design! Let us know what you think.

Hannah Montana dollMove over Barbie, Bratz (there's a new top toy in town…the Hannah Montana doll) (New York Daily News)

- Another Megan's law (passed in response to the recent cyberbullying firestorm in Missouri) (Monsters & Critics)

- Game boys (very cool photo essay on gamers in Mother Jones - thanks Andrew! Plus Guitar Hero/Rock Band face off [even though both games were created by the same people - not the same company but the same designers]. And more on "pretending to play" from Rob Walker's "Consumed" column) (New York Times, reg. required)

- 'Kate Modern' (and Bebo promoting HIV awareness in the UK) (The Guardian)

- Rogue study (researcher says having sex earlier may not be as psychologically damaging as some would have us believe. Thanks again Andrew!)

- The Dove backlash (against "Onslaught" and the New York Times, reg. required, on backlash against Rolling Stone's cigarette funded advertorial) (AdAge.com, reg. required)

- Facebook snapshot (graphs showing who's on the service. hint: it may be graying, but it's still very young) (Freezinghot.com)

- Study says kids will eat healthier (at school. I think all public schools should have cafeterias like Google's) (Washington Post, reg. required)

- College students aren't as marketing savvy as you think (they just don't believe any claims you make…In case you missed this last week) (AdAge.com, subscription required)

P.S. For Ypulse readers in SoCal, I'll be on KPCC's Pat Morrison show today at 2 p.m. talking about virtual worlds. Tune in!

  1. Eric Jaffa Says:

    Officials in Dardenne Prairie, Missouri don't seem like big supporters of the First Amendment.

    ==============
    Harassment is defined under the law as causing a reasonable person to suffer "substantial emotional distress."
    ================

    A spouse emailing "I want a divorce" is now a crime in Dardenne Prairie, Missouri.

    An art critic emailing an artist, "Your art is horrible and you should get another job" is now a crime in Dardenne Prairie, Missouri.

    A bizarre case shouldn't be the basis for a broad law.

    Love the newsletter design! Great job.

    I call "no way" on the RS/Camel debacle. The artwork of the "editorial" and the ad are just too similar to be a coincidence. Honestly, I didn't even think of the piece as edit — it just screamed advertorial to me. (It looked like an ad for the indie music thing enmeshed in ads for the sponsor, RJR) Lately I have been feeling doubts about letting my RS subscription lapse a few years back, but this just confirms that I made the right decision.
