Ypulse Essentials: '90210′ Highest Rated CW Show Ever, Nastia Liukin Flips For BSG, Teen Pregnancy By The Numbers
Posted by anastasia on 09-03-2008
'90210′ ratings gold for The CW (Did you tune in? I did — missed the first 20 minutes, but honestly, I thought it was kinda boring and cheesy. We'll see if the ratings hold up. Plus from the department of "no duh," kids with TVs in their rooms get less sleep) (Media Life Magazine, second link is third item)
- More on the new WB online (a hybrid web/tv model for the future?) (L.A. Times, reg. required)
- Olympic Gold Medalist Nastia Liukin… (flips for the Beacon Street Girls – becomes the new role model for the tween brand's social network)
- Teen pregnancy (by the numbers – Freakonomics style)
- Britney Spears ("was the soundtrack for girls growing into themselves." Fun essay/post) (Feministe)
- GOOD Magazine (is doing "well," hires a new CEO. Plus teens and tweens may be increasingly "green" its Boomers and older who are buying green products)
- Juicy Campus (expands its breeding ground for libel and cyberbullying – thanks Andrea!) (Tech Crunch)
- Colleges requiring athletes to learn appropriate use of social media (shouldn't this be required of all students?) (AP)
- Advice for a HS frosh (from PopCandy readers – with a response from the freshman herself)
- 10 Myths of Mobile Youth (Graham Brown kicks off a new series. Plus Nokia launches its music phone) (BBC)
- Spore Creature Creator (EA's new promotional game/app for the long-awaited game has spawned 3 million creatures so far) (L.A. Times)
P.S. Please check out our friends at Youth Radio — they are going all out with their convention coverage!

I don't think athletes should be kicked off their teams for online activities on their own time such as writing about sex or posting revealing photos of themselves.

I loved 90210. It fixed all the things that I don't like about Gossip Girl. They seemed more like real teenage problems like cheating and sports. You can clearly see they are pulling from the shows original inspiration, Degrassi.

Maybe I'm just getting too old or am completely spoiled by the quality of the scripted shows I love these days – Weeds, Dexter, Mad Men, etc. etc. The teen show I love now is Friday Night Lights (gritty, real). Maybe two hours was just too much in one dose. I'll give it another try.
