Ypulse Essentials

Note from Anastasia: Sorry for the late posting/email. I thought I could finish posting this morning but almost missed my flight back from Houston! Newsletter readers: I made a correction to yesterday's Essentials — Atoosa *did* mention Ypulse in her media diet (woot!). And just to be clear, when I used the term fan boys/girls when referring to teens who may dig Gaia's manga look in my intro to the Craig Sherman interview, I meant that as a colloquialism — Gaia, like Zwinktopia and lots of these other virtual worlds are 13 and up.
Goodbye 'Girls' (unless you are living under a rock or only read this blog, you already know "Gilmore Girls" was cancelled. I was never a fan of the show, so I'm not too sad about it, although I know lots of people loved it. The endless witty banter between mother and daughter drive me nuts. VMars was great this week though - go Piz!)
- Software developers seeking teens (I'm going to check out this forum — it kind of acknowledges how much of web 2.0 is being driven by youth and at the same time seems to want to pick their brains for the next big thing)
- The new 'Lonely Girl' (The L.A. Times, reg. required, on GreenTeaGirlie — YouTubers smell a rat! Plus ReelPop breaks down the new YouTube payment plan and how it will change the marketplace)
- Xtreme confusion (Izzy Neis points out that if kids spell out Disney's new tween social networking site as ExtremeDigital.com, they will find "a REALLY bad porn site." Oops.)
- 'Real World' casting (now reality TV wannabes can submit their video applications to MTV online)
- 007 prom theme (popular in 2007 - in case you missed this one in yesterday's New York Times Style section, reg. required)
- Sassy a 'cultural moment' not a media business (BizWeek's Jon Fine weighs in on the Sassy book. BTW, we now have our three winners from Wednesday's post! Thanks for commenting.)
- Flip is growing (it takes time to build a strong community…Flip appears to be on its way despite what the skeptics may say. ) (WWD)
- Girls learning game design (this seems like a very cool program funded by the National Science Foundation)
- Reggaeton fashion (the Rankea’o - coming this fall) (Iconoculture)
P.S. The Amercan Eagle "It's A Mall Life" branded entertainment series I told you about Wednesday is being directed by Milo Ventimiglia, aka Peter Petrelli on "Heroes."
