Ypulse Essentials
Posted by anastasia on 08-11-2006Note from Anastasia: I will be joining Fast Company's "BlogJam" on Monday and Tuesday. I'll probably repost whatever I come up with here….
Bully not so bad (Joystiq has a great round-up of the mainstream media's take on the controversial game. It appears Rockstar went back to the drawing board and created a game with less blood and more exploration)
- Fandom has a new social network (called FanPop…in beta now) (via CNET's News.com)
- Henry Jenkins has a blog! (with lots and lots of important words) (via apophenia)
- CNET intern discovers holes in Wikipedia (it's actually a nice essay from a teen about the pitfalls of using Wikipedia as a primary source)
- 'Blue's' back (and so are its young viewers. Plus the rest of this week's Younger Viewers wratings wrap up from Media Life Magazine…Wrestling is number two with teens this week…)
- Journey through teen pregnancy (this product seems strange to me. I'm all for teen girls who are pregnant getting the support they need, but through a journaling software product? Seems like a strange "target market.")
- Christian teen media adopts gaming metaphor (with a huge conference/tour called GameDay - thanks Wendy!)
- YouTube teen queen (her name is Lonelygirl15 Update: Some out there think she's a fake!) (TrendCentral) (see also The New York Times Screens blog)
- Roofies protector (this is the best invention I've every heard of) (USA Today)
- Hearst snaps up Elle Girl subscribers (for CosmoGirl and Seventeen - thanks Karell!) (AdAge.com, reg. required)
- Internationalist Magazine (provacative new mag published by the Internationalist Education Foundation and edited by "a team of college students and recent grads who intend to make you laugh about, explore, and dissect the world on micro and macro levels." Thanks Twilight!)
- iPod, uPod we all Pod! (uPod is USAA's free weekly podcast for teen members…Ypulse reader Julie from USAA, a financial services company primarily for the military and their families, says: "Plans are for the podcast to cover everything from money to school to college to frequent moves (related to military) to hobbies, etc. So far the podcasts have been very music-oriented to draw in listeners. In fact, we’re sponsoring a garage band contest in which uPod listeners vote for their favorite bands.")
P.S. MTV COO Michael Wolf gives us a hint as to how MTV will be using Atom as a talent incubator (via AdAge.com, reg. required):
"Atom Films is a way of showcasing and providing for the discovery of new creators and producers. Online video content is going to be critical to our success in future — having original video content is important for both users and advertisers. … [As for using Atom Films as an incubator] we've already done that with iFilm through our "Web Junk" program. We see the same thing with Atom Films. It's a pipeline for creators to be able to work both on small and big screens."

I'm really interested in the ellegirl's redesign, they were talking about in the adage article. Has anyone heard or read anything about the plans?
