camprock.jpgDisney debuts new franchise "Camp Rock" (Disney hopes new made-for-TV movie will be the next "High School Musical"; with a movie trailer in theaters, product tie-ins at Target, and movie soundtrack soon to hit stores, this is bound to occupy kids who wish they were spending their summer at camp) (AdAge, reg. required)

- New Line Cinema not marketing SATC to teens (despite its legions of underage fans tuning in on TBS) (Wall Street Journal)

- 'Body activism' combats eating disorders (the risk of developing an E.D. dropped 61% among high school participants, encouraging teen girls and psychologists alike) (TIME.com)

- 'Transcendental Meditation' in schools (school administrators insist mediation-friendly schools are healthier, happier, and far less prone to violence, while parents argue that "TM" is repackaged Eastern religion) (Newsweek)

- Cultural dictionary with millennial lingo (I am familiar with only one term - "defriend" - out of the list of eleven. Just goes to show how millennial-savvy I am, despite the fact that I am indeed a millennial) (AZ Central)

- MTV will begin DVR-proofing shows (although it's unclear how a network can actually DVR-proof their shows, a press release from MTV claims to do just that with new summer/fall lineup. Interesting plan, considering many of MTV's viewers are those who record shows and watch TV on their own schedule. In other MTV media news, the network's former president is utilizing YouTube to plead for a new job) (Entertainment Weekly) (Mediabistro)

- New virtual world is "Gaming for Good" (encourages users to practice good behavior on and offline, hopes to empower kids to make a difference in the real world as well as the virtual world) (Izzy Neis)

- Levi 'mixes up' spring campaign (new interactive website, which lets you mix and match new outfits to the tune of techno, is oddly addictive and makes me want to go shopping. Plus how sites like Stardoll may be helping retailers) (Adverblog) (Forbes)

- Youth-savvy designer wants to save Zune (he suggests enlisting popular brands and artists to create special-addition gadgets. In other fashion-gadget collabs, T-Mobile is teaming up with FIT design students in a contest to rate the best Sidekick accessory) (CNET) (Fashion Week Daily)

- MTV's 'Real World Brooklyn' is in for a big dose of reality (some residents of gritty downtown Brooklyn express concerns regarding the safety of the Real World cast, while others are excited about the possibility of natural exposure) (New York Times, reg. required)

- Invite-only digital marketing group launches ("Digital Influentials," made up of marketing and ad execs, will call Facebook their home base, which is a prime example of how Facebook has grown from a small college network to a professional social site over the past few years) (Mediapost, reg. required)

I don't think Disney Channel is thinking Camp Rock will be the next HSM. More than anything their exploiting the fact that they scored the Jo Bros. in one of their filler DCOM's. If you compared the budgets I'm sure you'd see this wasn't supposed to be on par with their big release of the Summer - The Cheeah Girls 3 (in August).
