YFly For 'Teens' 13-27?

Posted by anastasia on 10-31-2006

Hmmm…Just got a marketing piece via email about advertising on Yfly, the social network Nick Lachey has attached himself to (supposedly because predators were using his name to IM with teen girls). It says of the typical YFly user:

The Typical YFly user:

· Influencers
· Entertainment driven
· Socially inclined
· Beauty conscious
· Fashionable
· Looking to connect
· Interest in Authenticity
· Age range 13 to 27 years
· 75% female

Does anyone else think it's strange for teen sites that say they are "the next hot place to be online for Teens!" to allow adults over 21 in the same community? I think most of these sites do. I just signed up on Tagged as a 25 year old to check and it seemed to work. It's just interesting because in order for me to even be on a separate island outside the teen grid on Second Life, I have to undergo an extensive background check (that costs a lot of money!). Then again, I am thinking about what Michael Wilson of There.com said about just keeping their community rated PG, i.e. safe and clean for everyone. Does AOL Red allow members in who are over 21? What do you think? Should teen social networks (that market themselves as beeing for teens) allow adults to come in and play, too?

P.S. Yes, I've blogged about this before, I'm just curious about what you think…
