YAB Review: ‘Iron Man 2′
Posted by meredith on 05-11-2010Today’s Ypulse Youth Advisory Board review comes from Michael Hayball who was among the many moviegoers (guys and girls alike) to come out and see “Iron Man 2″ this past weekend and help make it the fifth highest opener ever. So.. was the comic book sequel as much of a crowdpleaser as the first go around? I’ll let Michael fill us in.
YAB Review: ‘Iron Man 2′
The biggest draw was EVERYTHING. If you watched the first one, you know that it pretty much had the perfect combination of good acting, great stunts and super suits. You know, everything that makes a superhero movie (much less a regular one) excellent. Any good sequel should have everything the first had times two.
How much did you know beforehand?
From the commercials it looked to be more of the same, and that is never a bad thing when the original was as great as “Iron Man.” I also knew, from a line said in the first film, that War Machine, a gun-themed version of Iron Man, was going to be in this one.
Describe your moviegoing experience
I saw it in a crowded theater with some friends on the Friday it came out.
Sum it up
Tony Stark, now revealed to the world to be the pilot of the “Iron Man” super-suit, is enjoying the fame that comes with it. But the very same thing that brings him such fame is also killing him — the palladium that powers the arc reactor is poisoning him. There are also villains waiting in the form of Justin Hammer, a rival weapons manufacturer, and Whiplash, a mysterious scoundrel who has constructed a super-suit of his own design. Can Tony find a suitable replacement element in time to defeat Hammer and Whiplash? If they want to make any more sequels, he’d better…
So, what’d you think?
Best second film since “Spiderman 2″, hands down. Robert Downey, Jr. was cocky as all hell, but the plot points were great. Sam Rockwell (who played one of the main villains, Justin Hammer) was exactly what he should have been, and that was a second-rate Tony Stark. The pacing was top notch, only getting slow about two-thirds of the way through, but picking up right after. The fight scenes were excellent, and the suitcase suit is just as awesome on the big screen as it was on TV in commercials. Overall a great sequel.
Also, I wanted to give a special shout-out for the last film appearance of DJ AM, who did some killer mash-ups in a fight scene between Iron Man and *censored for spoilers*. I recognized him from his appearance in DJ Hero and was like, “Is he going to do mashups?” and he did. Then I went like this :D
About Michael
Michael lives a simple life in Allen Park, MI. When he is not attending Henry Ford Community College for his Associates, he can be seen chatting and socializing around campus and the local coffee shop. He enjoys a good iced caramel cappuccino, or a regular coca-cola. Michael loves what he calls “The Blog Music,” and he was and still is raised on a steady diet of electronic music and old-school hip hop. Michael hopes to work for Spin magazine one day, and screams like a little girl every time a new issue comes to the local coffee shop.
