‘Veronica’ Goes to the Mall
Posted by anastasia on 01-05-2005“Veronica Mars” is coming to the Metreon (mall) in San Francisco on Saturday. It’s actually the cast from the show, but I’m curious to see how big of a teen turnout they get, so I’m going to go check it out. It’s also a good excuse to be able to browse the Chronicle Books display…
I actually caught the second half of the show last night — it’s been awhile, but I still like it. And UPN is actually trying to be teen-savvy in their marketing efforts. Heck they’re going to a mall — but the Metreon is no suburban teen hangout. It’s Sony’s playground, which attracts diverse San Francisco teens and is offers a huge arcade, movie theaters, video game store, crazy Risk type battle game store…you get the picture. I’m not sure what other malls or cities they plan to hit, but the Metreon is an interesting choice and kind of fits with the slick editing, DJ music/soundtrack and overall feel of the show.
UPN is alo promoting “Veronica” updates via text message on your cell phone and a microsite complete with “Veronica’s Diary.” Why doesn’t Veronica blog? Seems obvious and stickier than long sporadic diary entries…Also seems like they could have some kind of detective game that fans could actually interact with via cell phone each week.

Is there any insight into how kids b/w the ages of 5-12 use the internet? Are they internet savvy as those in those who are 12-15?
