The Youth 'Partyscape'
Posted by casey on 10-23-2008
The last time I received a party invitation in the mail, I was in junior high and ecstatic about being invited to a poolside get-together with – swoon! – boys, too. Since then, my social calender has been pleasingly filled with everything from swank birthday parties to frat keggers and no matter how high-class or low-brow the event, the invitation will always come electronically. Facebook and email have come to be the most reliable way of getting a hold of a friend. Cell phones break and numbers change. Kids move off to college and hop around from dorm to apartment. But e-mail addresses and Facebook profiles are no-fail.
A new division of Yellow Pages, called Yell.com, partnered with The Future Foundation to compile a comprehensive report on UK youth and socializing to discover new trends and advancements in the "partyscape." Here's a roundup of some of their findings:
- 73 percent of 18-24 year olds who have grown up with the internet agreed that the internet makes party planning easier. Interestingly, 43 percent of 55-60 year old "partiers" agreed as well.
- More than half of 18-24 year olds often invite people to parties over the internet, either by email or by setting up a group online.
- More than half of 18-24 year old partiers said they now get invited to more parties because of social networking sites. 35 percent often cram in more than one party in the same evening.
- Almost half agreed that it's more acceptable to arrive late for a party now that you can use your phone to let people know you're on the way. This increases to 63 percent of 18-24 year olds, compared to 32 percent of 55-60 year old party-goers.
- Nearly 60 percent of partiers do not actually attend parties they have RSVPed to. Almost two-thirds have made up a false excuse to avoid attending a party.
The last stat definitely rings true for parties or events organized on Facebook. How do you plan and RSVP to parties? Are there cool evite alternatives out there we should know about?

Check out http://anyvite.com if you're looking for a better evite alternative. We built Anyvite because we were sick of a mediocre experience while trying to plan parties and invite people with evite.
