Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group launches Virgin Produced, a new film and TV development, packaging and production company, which has simultaneous to its founding entered into a joint venture with Relativity Media’s Rogue Pictures to develop, produce and market movies.  Based in LA, Virgin Produced will be helmed by Jason Felts and Justin Berfield, both formerly producers of J2TV/J2 Pictures, serving as CEO and Chief Creative Officer, respectively. ABC programming chief Paul Lee made his big-network debut to TV critics today, after just 36 hours on the job. Named Friday to the post, he replaced six-year veteran Stephen McPherson, who resigned abruptly Tuesday. Lee is the former president of the ABC Family cable network. Before that, he worked for the BBC, where he launched a U.S. cable channel and sold NBC the rights to “The Office.” (USA Today)

Tumblr is hiring Newsweek senior editor Mark Coatney as its first “media evangelist.” Coatney, who had headed up Newsweek’s social efforts on Twitter and Facebook, will help a growing number of news publishers work with the fast-growing blogging service.  (New York Times, reg. required)

Lifestyle email newsletter and Web site DailyCandy on Monday is expected to name Jeanne Sachs as its new vice president of sales. Sachs will oversee DailyCandy’s sales and sales marketing teams headquartered in the company’s New York City offices. (MediaPost, reg. required)

Kalah McCaffrey has been named young adults and middle-grade book scout at Franklin and Siegal Associates, Inc. She had been a scout at Sanford J. Greenburger Associates. (Mediabistro, reg. required)

Justin Chanda has been named vice president and publisher, children’s division, at Simon & Schuster. He had been publisher, young readers division, there. (Mediabistro, reg. required)

Rob O’Neill is named VP/Program Scheduling, Cartoon Network.  In this newly created position O’Neill will oversee scheduling, long range planning and develop on-air strategies for Cartoon Network and Boomerang.  Based in Atlanta, he will report to Stacey Isenhower, SVP/Programming and Scheduling.  Most recently, O’Neill spent the last 13-years at Disney ABC Cable Networks Group (Cynopsis Kids)

Rachel Sheehan has been named editorial assistant at J-14. She had been ad sales assistant at MTV Networks. (Mediabistro, reg. required)

Former Yelp VP of Finance/Administration Vlado Herman takes a step up the ladder and becomes, as of today, Yelp’s Chief Financial Officer. (TechCrunch)
