Alloy Entertainment has beefed up its West Coast office, tapping NBC comedy executive Gina Girolamo as SVP television. Alloy’s long-time West Coast head Bob Levy has been named EVP, film. Additional promotions and hires include Andrew Wang as VP television and Polly Auritt as director development, Film. (Deadline)
Mohamed Sayed, 46, was promoted to chief financial officer of Channel One Network, a news source for teens that broadcasts to schools and is available online. (Crain’s)
M.T. Carney, partner at Naked Communications’ U.S. operations, has been hired to lead marketing for Walt Disney Studios. (Ad Age, reg. required)
Mark Zoradi, the former president of Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, has joined the big screen projection company Imax Corp. as a strategic advisor. Zoradi spent nearly three decades at Disney, most recently overseeing worldwide marketing and distribution, before he was ousted in November in a series of executive shake-ups led by studio Chairman Rich Ross. Caitlin Shear has joined the team and the Office of Admissions as Program Director for the Washington Journalism and Media Conference. Caitlin has 20 years of experience in event planning and program development. (press release)
Former Gawker editor Gabriel Snyder is now the Executive Editor of Newsweek Digital. First they join Tumblr, then they hire a Gawker editor—Newsweek is the hip newsweekly! (Gawker)
Wenner Media has made a personnel move to accommodate the upcoming departure of Rolling Stone publisher Will Schenk. minOnline reports that Matt Mastrangelo is moving over from the publisher’s office at fellow Wenner title Men’s Journal to take over for Schenk. Before Men’s Journal, Mastrangelo worked as an ad director at Rolling Stone for four years. (Mediabistro, reg. required)
Last August, MySpace acquired social music service iLike. As part of the deal iLike founders (and twin brothers) Ali Partovi and Hadi Partovi joined MySpace’s executive team, with Hadi becoming SVP of Technology and Ali taking the role of SVP of Business Development…[Tech Crunch] confirmed that both men will be stepping down from their executive positions at MySpace.(TechCrunch)
Jay Levine has been named to the newly created position of VP business planning at Warner Bros. Television Group. The former Disney exec, who will be based in Burbank, will work closely with WBTVG’s senior management and the studio’s business development and strategic planning department on potential acquisitions, growth initiatives, new business development and financial planning for the TV group. Cartoon Network grows its licensing division with the appointment of Ilissa Howard to the newly created position of Director/North and South Asia, Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) and Asia Pacific Product Development. (Cynopsis Kids)
