Ypulse Essentials: Twiday Is Here, Boomerang Grads Deprive Economy Of Money, From Facebook To Twitter

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1It’s finally here! Today is Twilight Friday (and “Breaking Dawn Part 1” has already set a franchise record for midnight ticket sales. If you’re among the Twihard fans who can’t get enough of the movie, here are a few wacky Twilight-themed goodies to sate your need for all things Edward, Bella, and Jacob. And if you’re among the Twihaters, maybe it’s time to let it go and get back to whatever piece of pop culture you’re into…cuz ya know we all have that not-so-secret obsession. Speaking of which, New York magazine suspects that no one will be obsessing over Twilight 20 years from now, unlike, say, “Harry Potter” or “Hunger Games”) (Hollywood Reporter) (IHeartDaily) (AV Club)

- College graduates are moving home; not just those who can’t find jobs, but also the ones who have decent incomes (in an effort to save money and stockpile a surplus, just in case things take a turn for the worse. It’s a smart move on Gen Y’s part, having heard countless stories of friends struggling to find a job or getting laid off. But the money they’re saving not having to set up a household — money that would be spent on furniture and housewares or pay for utilities and renter’s insurance — is also not feeding an already starved economy) (NY Times, reg required)

- PayPal wants Facebook users to ‘Send Money’ (which also happens to be the name of the new service it’s providing on the site. Using the app, it’s free to transfer money from person to person, from bank account to PayPal account. We see this as a whole new reason kids will friend their parents on Facebook. Hey mom and dad, send money! Speaking of students’ Facebook activity, they still spend plenty of time on the site, but it’s lost its cool cache now that everyone, from parents to brands, are on the site. And with so many prying eyes, they’re migrating their posting activity to Twitter where they can share publicly or exclusively) (All Facebook) (MediaPost)

- Happy birthday, Radio Disney! The station changed the marketplace (for kids’ music, and here’s the story of how it all got started from the woman who launched it, along with some fascinating insight into programming a children’s channel) (Tommy2)

- We’re down with the Kindle Fire, but we’re not sure about an Amazon smartphone (competing in an already crowded market. So far Amazon’s hardware — including the Fire — hasn’t strived to be the most innovative but to be the most accessible. Will the same tactic work with a smartphone?) (Telegraph)

- The ‘Annoying Orange’ is making the leap from (Web series to TV series next year with a deal for a half hour block on Cartoon Network. The network plans to leverage the show’s website and previous home on YouTube to promote the new TV series with continued original short form content) (Kidscreen)

- And finally for a little friday fun… (We’re LOLing at Biz Markie’s new anthem, “Just Unfriend,” which he performed in honor of National UnFriend Day with a few bonus Your-Facebook-Friends-Are-So-Lame jokes. Now may be the perfect time to cut the deadwood from your Facebook feed. Sing it with us, “Oh baby you, don’t got what I need, so I say we just unfriend, so I say we just unfriend”) (PopDust)
