Barbie packs on pounds (in an ad campaign for an organization called Active Life Movement to raise awareness of childhood obesity.) (AdFreak)
- Bristol Palin on abstinence (Fox News talks to the former Vice Presidential candidate’s daughter about why abstinence is not for every teen. Definitely one of those cases where actions speak louder than words) (CNN)
- Health care shortcuts (after college uninsured twentysomethings resort to internet diagnoses, self-medicating and trading prescriptions to treat their ailments. Yikes. Plus UC is checking student applications for fabrications) (New York Times, reg. required) (L.A. Times, reg. required)
- A few good mentors (is what U.S. teens need to improve their math and science competency) (ars technica)
- Nike footwear inspired by ‘Family Guy’s’ Quagmire (not sure I see the immediate connection, but maybe it’s a boy thing) (Zoomdoggle)
- Who’s driving the diversity discussion? (on Ad Age, Julius Dunn argues that despite being obsessed with marketing to the young urban population, corporate America doesn’t seem to listen to what they’re saying) (Ad Age, reg. required)
- A tip for ‘Gossip Girl’ (from TV Guide. The show has shown a slight slip in ratings for its second season. Of course that doesn’t include those tricky time-shifting viewers) (TV Guide)
- ‘Aaron Stone’ on DisneyXD (the flagship show for the new tween boys channel triumphs in its first week with over 1.6 million viewers. Plus Cartoon Network makes a play for the demo with the “Marvel Superhero Squad.” Also Ad Age’s Kids Upfront 2009 lays out how advertisers are choosing between Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, Cartoon Network. ) (Variety) (Ad Age, Reg. Required)
- Recession taking a toll (on tweens, too)
- Texting troubles (of the PG variety. A 14-year-old girl in Wisconsin is arrested for disorderly conduct after she refused to stop sending text messages during Math class. Thanks Eric! Plus, a story in Seventeen reignites the sexting discussion over on Jezebel) (Raw Story) (Jezebel)

The 14 year old Wisconsin girl who had been texting in class was arrested for “disorderly conduct.”
Ideally, there wouldn’t be any such crime as “disoderly conduct.”
