My Next Chapter

Posted by anastasia on 06-28-2010

The most rewarding part of being a “founder” is when the organization or company that you started can successfully live on without you. I believe that Ypulse has reached that moment, and so I am moving on from my role as Editor-In-Chief and embracing a new role as Director of Digital Programs at the Inspire USA Foundation. You can learn more about Inspire USA by reading Meredith’s recent interview with CEO Jack Heath.

Those of you who know me personally, or who have been longtime Ypulse readers, know that I started my career at Teen Voices magazine, a Boston-based non-profit publication by and for teen girls. I had just graduated from college, and eagerly jumped at the chance to work at this “start-up” where my job was at least three different jobs that included “raising my own salary.” I am proud to say that I did raise my salary as well as salaries for many additional staff members. In some ways, I feel like I am coming full circle by joining another very small non-profit poised for growth. The difference is that I can now bring many more years of strategic experience and connections in addition to my passion for doing work that will directly impact (and improve) the lives of young people.

While I won’t be working on Ypulse day-to-day, I remain very committed to the cause. You’ll see me pop-up in occasional guest posts, in our LinkedIn Group and playing a role in future Ypulse events.

What makes this transition so easy for me is that I know the website is in capable hands. Meredith Sires will be taking over as Editor-In-Chief, continuing to write and edit content as she has been so capably for nearly the past year. In addition, our merger with SurveyU has given Ypulse the executive leadership it needs to continue to continue to grow Ypulse Research and launch new lines of business. Readers, you are in very good hands.

Finally, I want to thank you. Some of you have been reading since the very early days, when I was just beginning to discover my voice as a writer (I cringe when I look back on some of those early posts). Many of you were instrumental in making Totally Wired a successful first book. Some of you have become good friends. Ypulse would not be where it is today without you – and neither would I. Thank you for your tips, feedback and genuine commitment to understanding and reaching young people in ways that are ethical and authentic.
