Youth Activism Coordinator at Legacy

The program development (PD) department works collaboratively with external community and national stakeholders, and interdepartmentally, to advance community-specific tobacco-related health equity issues. The mission of PD is to “strengthen the capacity of organizations, institutions and leaders impacting low socio-economic (LSES) status and youth populations, to advocate for an increase in health equity.”

The Youth Activism Coordinator assists the Youth Activism Staff in the day-to-day coordination and implementation of all Legacy Youth Activism Programs including Youth Activism Fellowship, Youth Leadership Institute, Alumni Network and other new/related initiatives. The Youth Activism Coordinator also provides administrative support to the Assistant Vice President for Youth Activism.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the Youth Activism Staff with the development and implementation of youth leadership and activism programs which may include multi-day trainings, special events, website content development and other appropriate activities.
• Provide administrative support to all Youth Activism staff, including scheduling meetings, travel arrangements, correspondence, filing, faxing and mailings.
• Track invoices, accounting records and payment requests; provide expense estimates, expense processing, expense reimbursements, and document assembly.
• Participates in external meetings, including site visits.
• Lends support to partnerships and collaboration with other youth-serving and tobacco control organizations.
• Builds cross-functional relationships with other internal departments on interdepartmental projects.
• Coordinates documentation of program activities and collect and analyze data, including metrics for formal presentation to Legacy’s Board of Directors.
• Coordinates program correspondence, including communications with participants, partners, and vendors.
• Builds and maintains a youth activism resource database for partnerships, activities and Legacy outreach.
• Coordinates logistics for program-related events and activities and attend offsite meetings, trainings and events to provide logistical support.
• Coordinates program outreach and recruitment and assist with application review and selection processes.
• Coordinates youth speaking events, including speakers’ training, and serve as key contact and liaison between youth speakers and event organizers.
• Responds to Youth Activism Program inquiries via phone, email, fax, etc.
• Tracks and updates Social Media activity for the department.
• Drafts e-Newsletter articles for the Legacy website promoting the department’s activities and programs.
• Facilitates and documents conference calls with program participants.
• Serves on internal committees/work groups.
• Performs other duties and special projects as assigned, based on the needs of the Program Development department, overall (e.g. ordering lunches, greeting and escorting guests to meetings, etc.). Asserts a positive attitude, which sets the tone for a professional office.
• Limited travel required.
• Support special projects as assigned by Youth Activism Staff and other departmental senior staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in public health, education, or other relevant field; a minimum of two to three years relevant experience in youth development/leadership, public health education, health promotion or project coordination experience working with community based and voluntary organizations is preferred; experience in coordinating effective and innovative youth activism/organizing programs with a focus on social justice and advocacy. Direct experience with youth media as a vehicle for social change a plus. Candidate must have a general understanding of organizing strategies and social change models; ability to multi-task in a collaborative, fast-paced environment; possess a working knowledge of youth engagement principles and ability to apply these principles in a variety of settings; must have excellent oral and written communications skills and prior experience facilitating a moderating training events.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

Salary range is low to mid 40k’s based on experience with EXCELLENT benefits.

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years experience managing and participating in all stages of Quantitative consumer research projects
