‘Hangout’ And Learn From The Obama Campaign @ The Ypulse Youth Marketing Mashup East
Posted by anastasia on 10-08-2008
We just added a new sponsor for the Ypulse Youth Marketing Mashup East — Hangout Industries, based in Boston, will be presenting about their new “hang out” rooms for teens. Hangout also made the TechCrunch 50 this year and have been generating lots of buzz – they’re in private beta now, so I’m excited to watch them launch and hear them speak in November. Our other sponsor, MyYearbook, is launching a very cool new app that we’ll tell you about exclusively here soon and will give a more in-depth presentation on this app in Boston.
Since we will just have elected a new president by the time this event takes place, our sponsored research presentation from Dan Coates at SurveyU promises to be incredibly interesting and very relevant. Attendees will learn:
What Every Brand Could Learn From the Obama Campaign’s Marketing to College Students
- Learn what drives Millennials in general and college students in particular
- Understand why connecting with the next generation should be a priority for every brand
- How to use technology to connect with today’s college students
Since we started producing paid Ypulse Mashup events in the summer of 2007, our sponsorship strategy has evolved. At our first event, we had sponsors who as part of their sponsorship, were able to speak on panels. After listening to attendee feedback, we separated sponsored speaking by creating sponsored case studies and research presentations that are clearly labeled. I know that folks don’t like “pay for play” at conferences, but the reality is that whenever we pitch companies or agencies as sponsors, they always, always ask to speak as a condition of sponsorship. This is why we have sponsored speakers and editorially chosen speakers. The majority of our speakers are always editorially chosen.
That said, we have been lucky to have amazing sponsors who are always incredibly relevant and have been great at making their presos informative and compelling for our attendees (i.e. not sales pitches). This past July, sponsored presentations were among the highest rated sessions from our attendees. Unlike other youth marketing conferences that charge over $1K to attend, our sponsors help us keep the attendee prices down and allow us to offer non-profit rates.
