Mob Shopper Brings Ads to Text Messaging Teens

Posted by anastasia on 11-08-2004

This is kind of interesting — According to the Quad City Times, a company in Iowa called Mob Shopper is "trying to connect businesses to consumers through text messaging." What this means is that you can opt in to receive text messages (alerts) from specific stores and be notified when they are having a sale or special promotion. You could also get local entertainment updates (what concerts or festivals are happening). The local chocolate store in the mall is pretty psyched: "Especially at Christmas time, I know kids will be coming out to the mall to hang out," he (Scott Klingbiel, owner of the chocolate store) said, anticipating that they will become Mob Shopper consumers. And if they get one of Rocky Mountain Chocolate’s advertisements "they’ll stop down and check it out."
