It's a Young Man's World

Blog publishing poster child Nick Denton is once again in the news -- his Gawker empire is launching three new blogs targeting young men 18-34 in response to "advertiser demand." (New York Times - reg. required). The first is Kotaku, a gaming/entertainment site, in addition to Screenhead, a fun with Flash and Photoshop blog or as it proclaims an "online review of funny shit," and Jalopnik, which is all about cars. Nick Denton comes across as a reluctant mogul -- very nonchalant (even unhappy looking -- see photo in article) -- as he blazes the trail for blogging business models. Quote that illustrates Nick Denton as reluctant mogul:

"I don't know about all this talk about a revolution in media habits. These are just online magazines that appeal to a certain kind of reader. We have been able to attract them and sell standard advertising units. That's it."
