A Teen’s First Look @ ‘JONAS’

A Teen’s First Look @ ‘JONAS’
When I first heard about the new show starring the Jonas Brothers, I wasn’t all too surprised. I mean, Miley Cyrus has “Hannah Montana,” Selena Gomez has “Wizards of Waverly Place,” and Demi Lovato has “Sonny With A Chance.” Why wouldn’t the rest of the Disney teen stars get their own show? So I decided to check out their first episode “Wrong Song” to see if it was funny, cute and as entertaining as their songs.
The first scene opens with the Jonases at school: Kevin is portrayed as the dense one (you know that character in every sitcom who takes a ton of time to actually get the joke), Nick is the girl-crazy boy who falls in love again and again and Joe is the older brother who teases both of them. The first episode focused on Nick and his pursuit of different girls, and how his brothers try to save him from himself. It also gave the audience a chance to get to know the boys exhibiting their fondness for smoothies, 20 questions, dumb jokes and teasing themselves. Of course, the show is slightly exaggerated for comedic effect, but for the most part, they act like brothers and normal friends. I doubt their characters are that far from reality, and in real life the boys obviously have to also deal with fans, and staying normal teenagers. It’s kind of like the girl version of “Hannah Montana,” popular teen celebrities who have to deal with real life in high school as well.
The soundtrack of the show is songs from the brothers’ band (which are written mostly by them, which is pretty cool) and while I’m not going to say it’s the most original thing I’ve seen, it’s not a bad effort. It seems like another part of the “Jonas” phenomenon that tween and teen girls can basically go crazy for. Personally, I do like their music, and I think they’re pretty cute, and think the show manages to capture that. It gives us an behind-the-scenes type of look at how the boys act at home, and I imagine they had fun filming it. I wouldn’t say I’m going to watch this show obsessively (I’m more attached to “Gossip Girl”), but it’s not a bad show, and I might tune in sometimes. Honestly, I think I’d have to watch a few more to really get a feel for the new show. I hope in the future there will be a few better jokes, and a slightly more interesting plot. But I’m optimistic!
About Caroline
Caroline is a high school student in Geneva, Switzerland. While Caroline lists sports, music and travelling as her hobbies, she also very much enjoys writing and reading. After being a teen adviser for NickMag, she thought Ypulse would be the perfect opportunity for a new start. While trying to keep up with the trends (or setting some of her own), dance classes, working on long papers and trying to master three new languages, she rarely has time to write the novel she wishes she could finish, though she is certain one day she will. Writing is never far from her thoughts.

Do American TV shows usually debut in Switzerland in the same week they debut in the US?

No,
They don’t. They usually take a few months because they have to dub it etc.
